Basil

Cooking with fresh herbs is always a good choice.  It looks better and it tastes better.  But it’s also more expensive and you typically have to buy way more than you need and the rest goes to waste.  I try to keep a couple of herbs in my garden like thyme and rosemary.  Unfortunately, basil has always been difficult for me till this year.  Instead of growing a basil plant in soil, I bought a basil plant with roots at the grocery store.  I just keep it in an inch of water to cover the roots and it has stayed alive for months.  I just pinch off what I need and I think it only cost around $3 – 4.  I just bought it at my regular grocery store in a little plastic bag, so you should be able to find it too.
